Peterborough

On our weekend Monday, we get dressed in non-farming clothes and ventured to the city (read: closest town with a gas pump), Peterborough.
Non-farming clothes
Peterborough had a fancy square with cute shops overlooking the river. It had a church of scientology and an organic food store. One shop we went into had beautiful bourgeoisie antique and cool house stuff--like antler chandeliers, cork candles, a framed chalkboard, mini clothespins, and Kenzie's favorite, a feather in a teardrop glass case. I was kind of embarrassed that I wanted (almost) every (overpriced) item. Especially the miniature clothespins. This was when I realized I was getting old. We had lunch at a coffeeshop. I thought Kenzie was super hungry and this was the reason she wasn't talking much over lunch, when she whispered, "We got to get out of here," and informed me that she was fixated on the lady behind us who was eating a miniature sandwich and reading a miniature bible, and they had locked eyes, and Kenzie was convinced she was giving us the evil eye because we were gay. It was kind of a strange day. The library hooked us into our dream plans of chickens and a garden and woodworking and we agreed that Kenzie has ownership over the chickens and I spent the evening scribbling down dates of when to start this and that vegetable. Kenzie, today, also decided to take us on a detour of the back roads of the Hancock woods, convinced that we were going in a circle ("We've already gone a half moon!"), ending up in a dead end. The woods were beautiful. Towering trees, staggered in a perfect and random pattern. I won't mention the end of our day adventure at the post office parking lot. Ask Kenzie about it ;) More on our hens and pseudo-permaculture garden plans (hopefully) to come!
