Silver Lining

Yesterday was one of those days where everything goes wrong. First, Kenzie was supposed to make cheese with Sarah, and she has been eager about it because learning how to mix the chevre keeps falling through. As it turns out, Sarah forgot about an appointment she had with a healing master so Kenzie ended up washing a couple hours worth of dishes instead. Bummer #1. Disaster #2: We spontaneously drove to Manchester (1 hr away) to pick up a new couch only to realize upon entering the apartment that the place wreaked of smoke. Before we had considered what to do, the Iraq army dude with monster wheels on his car had loaded the couch into our car, with most of the couch hanging out since it was a smudge too tall to fit inside, tied it down with tight army knots, and I had pulled a 50$ bill out of my pocket. We sat stunned in the car for a few minutes and then figured, what the hell.
Now, the couch sits covered with baking soda in our living room.
Our saving grace was going to be visiting the animal shelter 10 minutes away from the apartment. Oogling over cute puppies in hopes that Sarah would let us have a dog ("we'll revisit the topic soon" is the first reaction we got) especially if we found one we loved, was exactly what we needed. Perfect, the shelter was open until 8. When we arrived, of course, the shelter was closed for a 2 hour window from 4-6 (It was 4:30).
We had to surprise! get back to milk (We had started milking once/day so we weren't supposed to milk but then Sarah got worried about not having enough milk so called on us to milk after all). Well, in desperation, Kenzie knocked on the door of the shelter. Look of despair:
A meek volunteer in a T-shirt opened the door a crack and stepped out to sheepishly say they were closed, letting the door shut behind him. He was locked out and hung on the buzzer until a sassy worker came to let him in. Incidentally, Kenzie told her our pity story and we got let in too. As we were scooted through the shelter, we saw this guy:
and instantly fell in love. We had a few other mini disasters (note: milking, note: maple syrup, note: family of deer scampering in front of our car. Luckily, other cars were following us very far behind as they noted the precarious couch bouncing off our rear. note: the fury) but I'll spare you those and end on our silver lining--this cute pup, Boston (renamed hopefully if the landlords say yes). So wish us luck and maybe you'll get to play with this guy and sit or even sleep on our new, smoky couch.
